Message from Executive Director David Hernandez
As a life long resident of the San Fernando Valley I have witnessed first hand the results of poor community planning. As an Advocate for over 20 years I have taken an active role in controversial community issues.
I was in opposition to the Sunshine Canyon Landfill expansion and could be found on the protest lines with other activists.
I was in opposition to the expansion of the Bradley Landfill in Sun Valley and took and active role in opposition at community meetings and in the print media.
As a supporter of Los Angeles County Health Care Services, I took an active and vocal role in opposition the closing of community clinics and hospitals.
My positions and track record are well documented in letters to the Los Angeles Daily News and appeared at least once a month for two years.
So why LACSGA? As each of those battles for the community progressed I began to notice an alarming phenomenon and trend. Activists and Community Groups began to align themselves with other organizations that had a very different agenda.
Agendas which were questionable for the community if not the country were being over looked for the good of the cause at hand.
Individuals who for the sake of resources (money) to further their own cause, looked the other way and ignored the false and deceitful actions of those groups.
It is for this reason; I have made the decision to form the Los Angeles County Smart Growth Association.
